Whether you are new to the game or have been marketing online for a while you would have heard the term “The Money Is In The List“.
Well the above term is actually very true, the bigger you list the more you will earn but only if you market effectively to your list.
Building an email list is a very common thing, even offline purchases at your local store will from time to time ask you for your email address.
Many people join an email list to keep updated on a certain topic, to be notified when a new article has been created or simply to get free information and products.
You can build email lists in many different ways and the biggest hurdle that almost every online marketer faces is getting the traffic so people will join your list.
After you figure that out you will soon see that even when a person is on your list it does not mean they will open or even see your emails.
This is why testing and perfecting the relationship building aspect with your subscribers is very important. They will be waiting for your next email and will never miss anything you have to say or suggest because they like, know and trust you.
This is the only way to ensure that each person on your list is happy and remains purchasing your suggestions and recommendations.
How Do You Start Building An Email List?
I personally use them both for different types of campaigns. To begin with I just started with Aweber which is an excellent platform.
Aweber as has recently updated there dashboard and tools, it’s an excellent software with many different features, Aweber will cost you only $20 per month to take full advantage of all the tools and capabilities.
What I do to attract people to my list is firstly on every one of my sites I place a Web form in the sidebar. I usually offer people something for free that is related to the topic of the website.
I also use Light box pop ups and small sliders plus hello bars, all of these allow me to offer the direct customer something that is more tailored to there needs.
Another way I build my lists is to design a free video series or training videos on a particular problem that I know people are having. Then I pay a small amount usually between $80 and $200 and have someone with a large list that is related to my offer email my free offer to there list.
This can be as easy as a PLR product but remember it must be related to the target audience and your follow up emails need to be related to the reason why they first joined “Your Freebie”
They will then opt in and submit there email address and name if require to get access to my free videos, training or PLR.
The above method is known as email buys or Solo ads. This can also be done at a much smaller investment but I find the quality of the leads are far less active then the more expensive mail outs.
Another way to get people to sign up to your list and receive your free stuff is to create a basic banner and having it places on other peoples websites that get a lot of quality traffic. This type of advertising can be very effective and only cost you a small amount of money from as little as $30 per month.
Marketing Effectively To Your List
NOTE: “If you have a list of 200 subscribers or even 10,000, the income that you derive from your list will depend entirely on how you market to your list”.
What I do is always deliver on the original offer that was promised to get them to sign up in the first place, always try to over deliver on everything you do.
After the original offer you should never bombard your list with payed offer after payed offer or you will lose there trust and they will unsubscribe from your list in a flash.
Remember why they originally signed up which was probably to get your free offer or information.
So you should send around 2 to 3 emails per week with relevant information and or free stuff that they can use.
You can email more often especially if you have promised daily lessons, info or training.
Plus if there is a product launch that you feel your subscribers would benefits from then I would mail daily to them for the full 7 days.
Once you have built up some trust with your list then you should continue to send them free stuff at least 2 to 3 times per week and after you have done this for awhile you will be able to throw in around 1 email per week promoting a product or service that you believe is of high quality and will benefit the subscriber of that particular list.
This is the exact method I use but will mix it up if new products are launched and I want to make sure my subscribers are fully aware.
Build Your List Consistently
By building on your list constantly and then marketing to them effectively you will find over time your list will grow quite quickly and if you market to them effectively your list will become very responsive.
The income you can derive from your list will mean you can create money on demand by simply crafting an interesting and well written email to them on a weekly basis.
For example if you have a responsive list that you have built trust with of say 2000 subscribers and if you send an offer to this list that only pays you $20 per sale in commission the result will be similar to this:
If only 25% open email which out of 2000 is 500 people then if only 10% purchase your recommended offer then in effect you would have just made $1000 with just the one email.
To end this post the best advice I can give about how to treat your list is to remember that they are actual humans and would like to be treated with the same ethical respect that you would expect for yourself.
